DOST-X will be conducting a TeleMedicine Training for medical doctors in Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) on June 22, 2018. This training is one of the region’s initiatives for the project entitled: Roll-Out of 1000 Telehealth Device in Selected Rural Health Centers in the Philippines. Wherein the Telehealth Device is more popularly known as the RxBox.

The training’s purpose is to convene NMMC doctors and train them for patient referrals from Rural Health Units (RHUs). The training also intends to come up with an NMMC doctor’s directory for the RHUs. Clinical specialists from NMMC are to provide their work/office numbers for consolidation on the conduct of the training.

Protocols on patient referrals through phone calls, emails, texts and other forms of telecommunications will also be tackled and addressed. Through this, referred patients gain access to medical care and opinions from clinical specialists in the different fields.

Five speakers from the University of the Philippines-National TeleHealth Center (UP-NTHC) will be coming over to train the participants. Also identified is the issue of data privacy which is to be addressed by a speaker from the Department of Information and Communications Technology-X.

DOST-X, together with its partner agencies, seeks to provide an avenue for RHUs and NMMC to work together in providing health care assistance to patients in geographically isolated areas. (Julie Anne H. Baculio, DOST-X)
