The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region X joined the 120th Independence Day Celebration also known as “Araw ng Kasarinlan” or “Araw ng Kalayaan” (Day of Freedom) and the flag raising ceremony at Kiosko Kagawasan in Plaza Divisoria on June 12, 2018. The activity was also attended by National Government Agencies and Local Government Units to bring about an act of recognizing themselves as united Filipinos for the nation.
DOST-X dynamically participated and super headed by Engr. Romela N. Ratilla, ARD for Technical Services Division, with the officials and staff in respect and commemoration to the nation’s independence from the Spanish rule on June 12, 1898.
“Maghiusa kita, magtinabangay, sama sa gibuhat sa atoang mga bayani ug katipuneros nga naningkamot, nakig away, gikalas ang kinabuhi para kanatong mga Pilipino,” City Vice Mayor Joaquin Uy said as he officially marked the celebration.
The City Vice Mayor opened the celebration with his statement that everyone should be united as what our fallen heroes did and honoring the presence of the men and women in uniform who have continually struggled their lives to protect and provide peace in our country.
Also highlighted in the celebration is the strengthening of children’s education in preparation for the future generations as City Mayor Oscar Moreno acknowledged the Department of Education (Dep-Ed), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and other educational agencies to provide quality education and trainings.
DOST-X with its vision to be an excellent prime-mover of regional and countryside development with equity is ready to partner and provide development for the better change the country needs. Especially that it has been said by Moreno that “Mindanao is a land of promise and is abundant with blessing and natural resources.”
“We are not a separate government. We are part of the national government. Naay mga trabaho nga gitahas kanato,” Moreno aforementioned.
Moreno explained that tasks are dividedly given to endow with the national goals.
“We are gathered here today as one nation, as one region, one city. And most importantly as one people,” City Mayor Oscar Moreno said.
“…Solidarity. We must learn to live harmoniously in peace in spite of our diversity… We must show compassion not indifference…”
