The Metals and Engineering Innovation Center (MEIC) in Region 10 successfully received and installed six (6) metals and engineering equipment for its upcoming operations to serve Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the region.
The recently acquired equipment are the Rolling Machine, Shearing Machine, Press Brake, TIG Welding Machine, Power Hacksaw, and Electric Chain Hoist. For delivery soon are two (2) units of Computer Workstations with CAD/CAE, Portable Plasma Cutter, and assorted Power Tools.
All these equipment are to wholly comprise the services of the MEIC in serving the metals and engineering industry in Northern Mindanao.
The MEIC is a Department of Science and Technology-Metals and Industry Research and Development Center (DOST-MIRDC) project to initially establish Metals and Engineering Innovation Centers in five (5) regions across the country.
In region 10, the project is a partnership between DOST-10, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines-Cagayan de Oro Campus (USTP-CDO), and DOST-MIRDC. It aims to develop a strong collaboration between DOST and regional academic institutions to promote innovation culture and strengthen both parties' capacity and capability in metalworking. It further seeks to expand the regions' competitive advantage in metals and engineering.
"Eventually, our researchers and services at MEIC will assist our MSMEs and metal manufacturers who lack knowledge and design in engineering. Food processors needing metal equipment can also avail of our services soon," said Engr. Bronson Mabulay, MEIC coordinator. (Julie Anne H. Baculio, DOST-10)
