MALAYBALAY CITY, BUKIDNON, April 21 – The Department of Science and Technology-Bukidnon inspected and turned over Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) kits to Casisang National High School and Managok National High School on April 21, 2021, at Casisang National High School Covered Court, Barangay Casisang in this city.
The activity is part of the project titled “Capacity building cum Strengthening of Disaster Preparedness of Managok and Casisang National High School a GIDA, RTF-ELCAC Area Thru the provision of DRRM Kits in Malayablay City Bukidnon, D-2.”
Ms. Ritchie Mae L. Guno, Officer-in-Charge of the agency, shared that the project is an extension of institutional support under DOST’s Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program. The project is in collaboration with the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) of the Local Government Unit of Malaybalay City.
Casisang NHS, headed by Ms. Arlene C. Gantalao, received the tools for disaster readiness including 3 sets of two-way handheld radios for more efficient communication on the campus, 10 rescue helmets, and 5 sets of padded boards with splints which are standard equipment in rescue operations. The school also got 20 triangular bandages and 2 trauma kits to address first-aid needs.
Meanwhile, on behalf of Managok NHS, Mr. Pastor P. Abejuela III, School Head, received 3 sets of handheld two-way radios, 10 rescue helmets, six sets of padded board with splints, 21 triangular bandages, and 3 trauma kits.
The turned-over pieces of equipment are for the preparation of the two-day capacity training on DRRM, basic first aid, and basic emergency response. This training aims to produce trained and capacitated school DRRM teams.
Councilor Pepito Palumini representing the Barangay Council of Casisang in his closing message expressed their gratitude to the programs and projects of DOST that significantly help their community.
“Daku kaayu among pasalamat labi na sa Barangay Casisang kay naabot na sa mga eskwelahan ang proyekto sa DOST ug unta mas daghan pang proyekto nga makatabang ang ma-ipahigayon. (We are very thankful to Barangay Casisang for having the DOST projects reach our schools. We are hoping that more projects will come to help more beneficiaries),” said Kagawad Palumini. (Canish E.
