The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - 10 through its research and development initiative, allocates Php 2.3M for the conduct of Corn R&D. The ceremonial turnover and project inception meeting was conducted on November 24 and was graced by DOST Regional Director Alfonso P. Alamban. The event was attended by USTP Claveria Chancellor Dr. Renato Arazo, Project leader Dr. Nela Gonzaga, and other stakeholders.

The project, “Improving the Mineral Content of Region 10 Corn Varieties through Location-specific Soil Nutrient Management” aims to identify nutrient management strategies to improve the mineral content of corn varieties in the Region. The project also aims to train 100 farmers on nutrient management for corn and increase corn grain yield by at least 25%. This collaborative project between DOST 10 and USTP Claveria is also aimed to improve the quality of the corn products grown by farmers in Claveria, Misamis Oriental.

Dr. Renato Arazo expressed his message of support for the research endeavor and emphasized how DOST became part of the development of the campus and has continued its support to the institution over the years. He looked forward to more partnership and engagement opportunities on the field of research with DOST.
