Bencals Food Products, one of the sought-after tablea makers in Bukidnon, finally received its License to Operate (LTO) from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on February 12, 2022.
The LTO issued to Bencals Food Products certifies the firm's legality to operate as a Food Manufacturer of its tablea products.
The high demand for cocoa offers a huge opportunity for the firm as there is no existing market in Bukidnon for Cocoa Butter yet. Hence, Bencals Food Products sought the assistance of DOST for product innovation support by upgrading their Cacao Processing facility.
Through the DOST-Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (DOST-SETUP), the firm innovates cocoa into Cocoa Butter and Cocoa Powder.
Intending to supply Cocoa Powder to large manufacturers and export companies, Mr. Ben Calunod, the firm's owner, simultaneously applied for FDA-LTO Certification on June 2, 2021.
The FDA recommended the following control measures to Bencals Food Products to improve its production and processing area: installation of the net in the roasting area, installation of explosion-proof lighting inside the processing room, provision of steel table for the raw materials, and equipment stands.
With this new milestone, the firm will be able to widen its market among bakeries, cakes, and other chocolate-flavored pastries in Bukidnon as well as in Northern Mindanao. (Goldy H. Cordero, DOST-Bukidnon)
