quemado brothersreducedBukidnon’s youngest mushroom agripreneurs and brothers, Numeriano and Edsel Quemado acquire science and technology upgrading on their production processes through the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) on the 3rd quarter of 2021 amounting to Php 365,800.00. DOST 10 thru the Provincial S&T Center in Bukidnon, upgrades the production capacity of Mushroom City Company, one of the established pioneer mushroom growers in Bukidnon. Through the SETUP program, the company were able to secure a mushroom substrate bagger to mechanize the manual filling of fruiting bags, and stainless facility fixtures, horizontal fryer, de-oiler machine, and octagonal mixer for increased production capacity of value-added products. They also applied for DOST 10’s consultancy services and product laboratory analysis in preparation for their FDA-LTO application.

After one year of SETUP intervention, the business is expected to increase its labor productivity by 142.41% and capital productivity by 147.61%. Their production capacity will also increase by at least three-folds and generate 10 more employment opportunities for the local community. Through DOST 10’s consultancy services, their production plant is nearing its completion which will eventually lead to increased compliance to the standards of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), better product quality and ultimately deeper market penetration.

Mushroom City Company, located at P8, Kalasungay, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, is a startup business. One of the owners, Mr. Edsel Quimado Quemado, is a former being a product of Central Mindanao University (CMU) – Technology Business Incubation (TBI) Program.
