Bestfriend Goodies is an acclaimed local pasalubong producer in Cagayan de Oro City. The firm has started growing and innovating since 2017 when it first sought the technologies and technical assistance of the Department of Science and Technology through the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).
Among the firm’s most notable accomplishments is its success in the adoption and commercialization of various technologies, both national and local, to expand its line of products. Bestfriend Goodies is a licensee of the DOST Food Nutrition Research Institute for Enhanced Nutribun. BFG has also forged a technology licensing agreement with DOST Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI) on Ready to Eat (RTE) Arroz Caldo and with the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines on four RTE food products: mixed fruit with coconut milk, sweet chocolate rice porridge in a pouch, chicken soup with coconut milk, and mung bean-based food with coconut milk.
Each serving of Enhanced Nutribun weighing 160-165 grams per piece, has 504 calories, 17.8 grams protein, 6.08 milligrams iron and 244 micrograms vitamin A.
The RTE Arroz Caldo of DOST ITDI was developed as food rations during combat, high-risk military operations, and disasters.
The technologies adopted from USTP were developed by the Northern Mindanao Food Innovation Center, a technology hub for Innovations, research and development, and support services for the food industry in Northern Mindanao.
With the five adopted technologies, the firm is now supplying products to DepEd, DSWD, and institutional buyers. The expanded line of products has leveraged the Bestfriend Goodies to a 90% increase in sales.
BFG, in partnership with DOST 10, has recently launched its RTE products at the National Science and Technology Week sa Amihanang Mindanao on October 27 at Limketkai Atrium. The firm declared its pledge to consistently deliver on the promise of quality for the RTE products and other supplementary feeding products as well as disaster mitigation/relief food to address the immediate hunger of disaster victims (Nova Belle Calotes/DOST10)
