The Department of Science and Technology, Region-10 has successfully launched the Northern Mindanao Food Innovation Center (NMFIC) last August 21, 2015 during the Science Nation Tour. NMFIC is located at Mindanao University of Science and Technology, C.M. Recto, Cagayan de Oro City.
The launching was graced by no other than the DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo, together with the representatives of the major stakeholders the Honorable Congressman Rufus B. Rodriguez, the Congressional Representative of the 2nd District of Cagayan de Oro City and his lovely wife Mrs. Fenina Rodriguez; Dr. Ricardo E. Rotoras, the President of MUST; Dir. Linda O. Boniao, the Regional Director of the Department of Trade and Industry, Region-10 and Ms. Ma. Luisa N. Tumang, the President of the Food Processors Association of Northern Mindanao (FOPANORMIN).
The Department of Science and Technology Region X held its kickoff activity of the 6th regional leg of the Science Nation Tour in Tubod, Lanao del Norte. “Agham na Ramdam” was the theme of the science road show held last August 20-23, 2015. During this Northern Mindanao leg Secretary Mario G. Montejo was featured as guest at the 105th Regional Development Council X Full Council 3rd Quarter Meeting last August 20, 2015 in Mindanao Civic Center.
In a competition that was exhilarating and interesting, the trio of Gusa Regional Science High School’s Elizur Maandig IV, Harvey Jade Ang and Karl Andree outdid St. Mary’s School to bag gold in the 2015 Science Nation Tour Quiz Bowl held last August 22, 2015 at the Limketkai Event Center, Cagayan de Oro City.
Gusa RSHS-X and St. Mary’s School were leading going into the sixth question of the difficult round where the former got the only correct answer and sealed the victory, finishing with 51 points. St. Mary’s School finished in second place with 46 points and Central Mindanao University-Laboratory High School took home the third spot with 36 points.
True to its theme, “Pasidungog sa mga Mahimugnaon alang sa Nasudnong Kadaugan batok Kalisdanan”, the 2015 Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits (RICE) in Northern Mindanao concluded on Sunday, August 23 with the proclamation and awarding of winners in the different categories of the three-day competition held at the Event Center, Limketkai Mall, Cagayan de Oro City.
Dr. Reuel C. Pallugna and Engr. Clark Darwin M. Gozon of the Mindanao University of Science and Technology bested 17 other professional research teams to emerge as regional winners in the Outstanding Creative Research (Likha Award) category, with their patent-pending invention dubbed as “Low-cost remote rain and stream data acquisition system for mapping of potential micro-hydro sites”.
One of the highlights of the Science and Technology Forum on August 21, 2015, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has released the assistance for the computerization in the processing of building permits under the Building Permit Management System (BPMS) Project of the city. In the ceremonial turn-over, no other than the DOST Secretary Mario Montejo and DOST Region 10 Regional Director Alfonso Alamban handed the check to Mindanao University of Science and Technology President Ricardo Rotoras of the Mindanao University of Science and Technology.
