On the occasion of the National Women's Month Celebration this March 2022, the Department of Science and Technology Region 10 displayed roll-up banners featuring exceptional Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST)/Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) Women partners who were able to hurdle the challenges of being a woman toward success and served as an example of how DOST 10 makes change work for women.

Ms. Arlene Ukay owns La Elena Pension House Rental, which offers accommodation and catering services in Jimenez, Misamis Occidental. As a SETUP proponent, her business was able to meet the market demand for E-nutribun in Misamis Occidental and generate employment in their community.

DOST X CEST LANAO DEL NORTE PROPONENT

Ms. Edna Yurong is the Barangay Calube Farmers Association (BACFA) chairperson, producing turmeric powder and tea from Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao Del Norte. This association that she leads was able to uplift the lives of its women members through the DOST CEST Science and Technology intervention that generated employment and increased their income.

DOST X SETUP BUKIDNON WOMEN ENTREPRENEUR & PROPONENT

Ms. Anna Paula Chiong empowers IP women in the community by hiring them as employees of her growing business. She is of Talaandig indigenous ancestry and grew up in a low-income family. She built her determination to improve her family's life with strong faith and hard work. In college, even as an IP scholar, she sold pineapple jams using her mother's recipe to support her education. Her small business, later on, turned into one of Bukidnon's Famous Products.

DOST X SETUP MISAMIS ORIENTAL WOMEN ENTREPRENEUR & PROPONENT

Ms. Nenita Tan is a second-time DOST SETUP proponent and technology adaptor for six ready-to-eat (RTE) technologies. Currently, she employs around thirty-six (36) women who used to be plain housewives to do the boxing for the Enhanced Nutribun (eNutribun) and ready-to-eat foods to cater to the School-Based Feeding Program of DepEd.
