The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory was launched in 1992 to answer the needs of verious industries, researchers, and other customers for analytical services. Foremost among these industries is the food industry.
Apart from the food industry, there are other industries that require testing services particularly those that are export oriented. Many of these industries are still dependent on laboratories situated in Manila for their testing needs.
The idea is to give the industries the necessary support services for them to enhance their productivity and afford them better quality products.
As part of its plans for expansion, the laboratory intends to upgrade its facilities by acquiring new and better equipment that will allow greater number and wider range of its analytical tests. It also plans to upgrade the expertise of its staff through local and international trainings.
The DOST Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory is actively involved in the Northern Mindanao Consortium of Analytical Laboratories (NorMin-LABCON). The LABCON is composed of analytical laboratories from the government and private sectors which work together in implementing various projects aimed at improving the quality of services given to their respective clients.
RSTL Functions:
To conduct microbiological and chemical analysis on materials and products;
Assist students and other indivduals in various researches by providing them access to different facillities and equipment available in the laboratory.
